LUNA'S LOVES

If it isn't obvious at this point that I love skincare, then I'm not sure I'm doing it right. For the past month I have had the privilege of trying Y'OUR Skincare exclusively to test out how they work. My skin wasn't the worst its has been like I previously blogged about on here. . I honestly just got a little lazy and on top of everything leveling out my hormones since being post partum. Overall, good skin- just really clogged pored. Plus, my skin texture wasn't as smooth as I wanted it nor was it where it had been when I worked really hard to eliminate what was causing my cystic acne. So no acne, but clogged pores. I can work with that. With Y'OUR, it's gets to know you personally by a short quiz to understand your skin care wants and problems. Which, I looove because I can get a whole routine without having to formulate one on my own. They basically give me all the steps to be successful.
So down to the real stuff, is it worth it? I think so. Here's the breakdown: simple, delivered to your door, and it formulated just for you (need I say more!!). The one step I wish I had was exfoliation. I started to slip back into bad picking habits (oops).
Unfortunately, I don't have before photos but what I can say is yes my skin is better. Some of the clogged pores either need to be extracted by a professional or I will continue to add exfoliation separately. But what I loved about Y'OUR Skin is that my skin looked hydrated and clear by the end of my trial. Please don't take my word for it, try it yourself, See if it works for you and your skin journey!

I am usually the person that has the great idea to give everyone in my office a nice homemade gift at Christmas time or Christmas update card around December 15th. That's way too late to stat thinking about that. Honestly, I get so busy and it seems so daunting that I inevitably give up and make a note that next year will be my year. So when I got the opportunity to work with Basic Invite, I had a few requirements for my self: A.) it had to look pretty, and B.) it had to be easy. And that was exactly what I experienced with Basic Invite. I went through the whole process and tried a variety of different  options (all pictured) from home stationary, family thank you's, Frankie's baby announcement, Ryan-Kate's  preschool graduation, and a hypothetical anniversary party. The ease of each project sold me! When I received my samples I was blown away with the quality of each of my items, and I didn't even get the gold foil option! Right now, Basic Invite is offering 15% off with code: 15FF51.

Basic Invite has a line for their graduation invites, announcements, and thank you's. I created a mock up for Ryan-Kate and I loved how it turned out! I loved the interaction with the whole process, they double check your work and once you approve they send it off to print! I consistently have spelling errors and admittedly am not a details person. So the fact that someone else can check my work was an added bonus.
I picked out some of my favorite graduation invites for you! Take a look:

I bet many of you don't remember the time I had purple hair for about 6 months. If I knew then that I know now, I would do things way differently. In the process, I fried my hair and it took a while to get it to where it used to be. I think hair should be fun and an expression, also, hair grows back! So don't be afraid to shake it up a bit. I got an opportunity to try Overtone's for brown hair line so that brunettes can try color too without all of the damage. Overall, I loved the ease of this product with my hair. The coloring system is easy: just apply to dry hair and wash away with hot water 10-15 minutes later. No extreme bleaching or harsh chemicals. It is a vegan, cruelty-free product too! The smell is almost like the love child of spearmint and rosemary. It's pretty refreshing.
Here are my before and after shots. Of course, my highlights took to it immediately. but the rest of my har has a subtle rose gold color. This shade has a lot of warmth to it, which complimented my olive complexion. Because I previously had highlights to my hair, I diluted the front pieces with a hair mask that I already had on hand. Then after I washed my hair out, I put purple shampoo on my front pieces and washed again to give it more of a pastel look.If you are a blonde, you can easily use their colorless hair treatment to achieve a pastel look. Overtone is a highly pigmented product, so a little goes a loooong way.
If you want to try out out Overtone's Rose Gold for Brown hair - I'm giving one away! All you have to do is:
1. Like this instagram post
2. Tag a friend you'd think also enjoy it
3. BONUS! subscribe to my blog

Giveaway ends February 24th.

Now I am not a baker. I repeat, I am not a baker. So when I was gifted Florida Crystals® Organic Sugar I was racking my brain to bake something that A, I loved, and B, was easy enough for us non-bakers to do. I had a beignet at a foodie event that Andrew and I attended and it was the perfect mix between sweet savory and even had a kick to it. It was so delicious that I went back for seconds and even thought about it for days. This is my interpretation of that beignet but instead of fried, I baked mine. Fried food tends to hurt my stomach if I have too much of it, so I didn't want to go the tradition route. But trust me, nothing is lost in this dessert. Also, you might be hesitant about a cayenne whipped cream, but there is so much sweetness between the honey and powdered sugar that it is exactly what it needed to make this dish perfect. Originally I served it on the side, but then my brilliant husband started to stuff the beignets and our mind were blown just how good it was! Honestly, these really are just as good as they look.
Ingredients:

Beignets
  • 4 cups flour (plus extra on hand)
  • 1/4 cup of Florida Crystals® Sugar
  • 1 1/2 cup of milk (lukewarm)
  • 1 package of fast activating yeast
  • 1 egg
  • 4 tbs of melted butter
  • 2 teaspoons of salt
  • Extra milk and melted butter for brushing dough
  • Extra powdered sugar for sprinkling on top
  • Honey to drizzle on top
Cayenne Whipped Cream
  • 1/2 cup of Florida Crystals® Powdered Sugar
  • 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 tsp cayenne (plus more if you want more spice)
  • 1 tsp paprika
  1. Place milking yeast in a bowl and let it sit fro 2 minutes. Then mix in sugar, eggs, and butter.
  2. Slowly mix in flour and salt. Place the (sticky) dough on a floured surface and knead until it is no longer sticky. You might need to mix in a little bit more flour.
  3. Transfer dough in a large bowl with a damp warm cloth and let rise for 15 minutes.
  4. Preheat oven to 350.
  5. After dough is done rising, remove excess air and roll out. Cut out dough in 2 inch rectangles.
  6. Place on a non stick pan and brush with milk. Bake for 12-15 minutes.
  7. While beignets are still warm, brush with melted butter.
  8. In a medium bowl add powdered sugar, heavy whipping cream, cayenne, and paprika and mix with an electric mixer until it starts to look more like whipped cream. Note: keep tasting and adjusting until it is to your likeness.
  9. Put whipped mixture into a piping bag and stuff beignets (it can also be eaten on the side)
  10. Sprinkle powdered sugar on top and drizzle honey on top.
  11. Enjoy!

Happy Fall! I am so excited it is finally October! There is something about the fall colors, the warm sun, and the crisp air that is my favorite in Colorado. This past summer Andrew and I (okay, mainly just Andrew) worked on our deck.  Now we are excited to start hosting people this fall! And I honestly love any gathering as long as it has good hangs. I am an atmosphere person, meaning if there is a fun atmosphere with people I enjoy I want to be there. Even if I don't like the activity. It's probably why I like baseball games. I love the energy of the crowd and the food!
I got the opportunity to try out Winc which accompanied my cheese and wine party! The process is so easy. All I did was answer a few questions about my taste preference and Winc chose the wines. There is such a big variety and a vast amount about wines that I still don't know that not having to walk up and down the isle of a liquor store was worth it! Winc also gives you to option to switch out anything you don't want and even how many reds or whites you want. It is so convent and easy!
So now for the fun part! I'm excited to share the love of Winc with you all too. You can get 4 bottles of wine for $39 plus complimentary shipping! How great is that?! To get you started and just click HERE to try. Cheers and enjoy!
Here is what you'll need to host your own cheese and wine party!

Supplies:
  • 1-2 Cheese boards
  • Cured meats like prosciutto or salami
  • Fruit of your choice- grapes, figs, or any type of berry
  • Jam or honey
  • crackers of your choice
  • Assortment of salted nuts
  • Wine

There are a couple of necessities that I need for my daughter: one is a detangle spray. She is the most tender-headed girl I have ever met. I was given the chance to try Gryph and IvyRose and was gifted their detangle spray and kids daily chocolate probiotic. So far? Game changer. These products are high end and natural. Plus, because the probiotic is chocolate, she takes it like a champ and it is one less thing I have to worry about as a mom as a part of her diet. I've also have to confess that Ive used the detangle spray on myself and enjoy the smell of the spray. My daughter least favorite part of her day is brushing her hair and yet insists on wearing it down (which only gets more tangled). But adding a detangle spray that is natural and great for kids really puts my mind at ease. Take a look at their natural products for you or your littles. Their shop ranges for all sorts of mommy and me items!

Have you heard of the hemp oil craze? It's like the new coconut oil but better! It also turns out that it is beneficial to helping hormonal acne, it has skin benefits, and other benefits. It's important to get 100% pure organic hemp oil. My favorite is Hempvana. use code UNLOCK10 to get 10% off your order. Because hemp oil is generally newer to the market, most people don't know how to use hemp oil. So to help you out here are some uses for hemp oil.

    1. Make up Remover-
In the past people have used coconut oil for this, but coconut oil is actually comedogenic. This just means that it clogs your pores and causes more breakouts. Hemp oil is non-comedogenic, it rates a zero out of 5 on the scale. In fact, it helps skin by unclogging pores and prevents break outs by balancing sebum production, which is commonly found in hormonal acne.

    2. Skin & Hair Moisturizer-
Applying hemp oil helps relieve problems like dryness and eczema. It is actually considered a 'dry oil' so instead of making you feel oily it acts more like an astringent. Hemp oil helps to condition the skin and strengthens it to become more resistant to infections. Try this recipe for a skin or hair moisturizer!
  • 1 tbs argan oil
  • 1 tbs hemp oil
  • 6 drops lavender oil
  • 6 drops tea tree oil
   3.  Eat it-
Hempvana Hemp Oil blends the perfect combo of Omega 3, 6, and 9 fatty acids. It is flavorful with notes of an earthy, nutty taste. It's not recommended to heat hemp oil. When it is cooked it smokes, which causes most of the nutrients to deplete. Instead experiment by adding it to your favorite recipes like salads, dressings, hummus, protein shakes, pesto, or cold soups.

I love being able to experience my daughter grow up. She is getting so much better at telling stories too. She gets all animated and expressive that Andrew and I can't help but laugh. Her personality is really coming through and it's a privilege to watch. Ryan-Kate and I recently took some Mommy  and Me photos for a swim suit line called SwimZip. They have tons of cute options for you and your little. I am already eyeing my next one! The one that RK and I are sporting is their new line that is launching this Friday. It is along sleeve surf suit, but seeing as I have never surfed I love it for those days when maybe the sun is just too intense. I also discovered after I took on this project that SwimZip was recently on ABC's Shark Tank! Check them out!
