I love being able to experience my daughter grow up. She is getting so much better at telling stories too. She gets all animated and expressive that Andrew and I can't help but laugh. Her personality is really coming through and it's a privilege to watch. Ryan-Kate and I recently took some Mommy  and Me photos for a swim suit line called SwimZip. They have tons of cute options for you and your little. I am already eyeing my next one! The one that RK and I are sporting is their new line that is launching this Friday. It is along sleeve surf suit, but seeing as I have never surfed I love it for those days when maybe the sun is just too intense. I also discovered after I took on this project that SwimZip was recently on ABC's Shark Tank! Check them out!

I'm a person who loves to shop, but I'm also a person who loves a good cause. I've recently partnered up with Humble Soles and I am thrilled to tell you all about it! Humble Soles is a company that has handcrafted items made by artisans in Nicaragua. So every time you purchase 10% is donated to the children of Nicaragua! You also get to choose how your donation affects the children in Nicaragua by either donating to feed a child, educating a child, or fixing the child's home. What a beautiful way to help those in need! If you would like to give straight to help support the people in Nicaragua, check it out HERE.
A few years ago, husband and I got the opportunity to lead a Mission Trip to Nicaragua. My in-laws have a huge heart for that country and we can to go along side them while they were there for a short time. Although it was not my first Mission Trip, it was eye opening to see the struggles of Nicaragua first hand. I'm a "high-justice" person and when this collaboration came up to help Support Humble Soles, I immediately said yes with no hesitation! Please check out their story. I am sure they will inspire you, too.
Humble Soles carries a variety of children shoes and bows, a few dresses, and some macrame items. My daughter is wearing the Luna Sandals (and not because I am obsessed with my name HA) and the Flora Dress in white. Use code ryan-kate10 to get 10% off your purchase. Hope you enjoy your Humble Soles items!

I still get massive amounts of anxiety when I think of being fully vulnerable. For a lot of my younger years, I considered being vulnerable weakness. I'd watch movies of strong, courageous women or read books of independent coming-of-age girls and I took notes on their survival mechanisms. The overall takeaway for me was: do not under any circumstances be weak.

Last night while I was talking with my husband I realized that in order to be fully loved, I have to uncover the dark, hidden things in my heart. Things that I've considered so ugly that I never dared to say out loud. Because to be loved in those places, with everything exposed, is to be loved as one whole being. In my marriage, I've noticed God's extension of love through my husband. The unconditional, unwavering example of what Christ is to the church and it makes me so thankful for him. Last night when I uncovered my hurts to Andrew, it allowed him to love me in places that I had previously boxed up and shoved to the corners of my heart. Things so deep, deep down that I had forgotten about them. All I did was expose light to them. Things that stay hidden and in secret will always have power over us and they loose their power as soon as they are exposed to the light.

If you want healing in all areas of your life, I challenge you to expose the things that bring shame and destruction. Then, let the Lord love you there. You can never know what it means to be fully loved if you keep those things hidden in the dark. It's time to turn the light back on.

I got this crazy idea where I wanted to do an Easter egg craft with Ryan-Kate. It mainly consisted of my doing all the work while she played with her friend. She is responsible for two eggs the brighter blue one and a pink one, which are ironically not the "natural" dye method and the most vibrant of the bunch ( **insert cry laugh emoji**). Here's the conclusion I came to: natural dye is tedious longer process that my child did not care for. Luckily, I had an store bought dye for Ryan-Kate and her friend to participate, resulting in the most successful attempts of Easter Dye. Although the pastels are quite beautiful in my opinion, so I'm not complaining.
Here's what I did:
  1. Boil eggs.
  2. Colors: yellow-saffron, blue- red cabbage, and brown- coffee.
  3. Yellow- Saffron. Boil water and add 1 tbs of saffron with 1 tbs of vinegar. After egg is fully boiled add it to the saffron and boiled water.
  4. Blue- red cabbage. For this one add several red cabbage leaves with a 1 quart of boiling water, uncooked egg, and 1 tbs of vinegar. After the egg is done, continue to let the egg sit in the dye. The the longer the better.
  5. Brown- coffee. I make French press most morning and just used my left over ground with some boiling hot water, 1 tbs of vinegar all in a mason jar. Again the longer it sits the better!

Late last year I felt the Lord leading me to become what I like to call "heart healthy." It all started when I wrote a blog post, Understanding Pain. A few days after that post I listened to a podcast that I had in my phone for months, but for whatever reason, I decided to tackle it. I was left raw. I felt fragile as I slowly began to uncover matters of my heart that I had stuffed so far down in order to self preserve myself. In 3 John 1:2, it says, "Dear friend, I wish above all things that you may prosper and be in health, even as your soul prospers." Our souls are made up of three parts: mind, will, and emotions. God wants us to be prosperous in all areas of life, but if we have a war internally in our souls we will produce it externally. I had two instances when I noticed my emotions get out of control and I felt prisoner to my emotions.
Being a mom isn't easy. I've said before that there are as many ugly, un-perfect moments as there are genuine, beautiful Pinterest ones. Once my daughter had a meltdown so bad in public that when I finally got home, I cried for two hours on the couch. Not exaggerating. TWO HOURS. I felt so defeated. What was even worse was how I let the circumstances dictate my emotions. When we finally got back to the car, I was completely reactionary in my discipline and the way I treated my daughter that it scared me. I didn't want her to learn anger from me and I realized I had to get it under control. When I started this journey I didn't realize I had suppressed emotions and it wasn't until I came into frustrating situation that it was triggered. The turmoil of my internal life was leaking out, and more than anything I didn't want it to rub off on my daughter. So I dove head first into experiencing complete freedom. I knew more than anything it wasn't necessarily an anger problem as it was I needed to experience God's patience and love in an area of my life. Anger is just a fruit of a deeper problem. I felt the Lord point at this area of my heart and invite me into a journey where we could walk this thing out. I am fully convinced that love is a "heal-all." I am daily inviting His transforming love to heal broken piece of my heart. I have decided that I will no longer let my emotions rule over me. My emotions may be lairs, but I am not. At least not anymore.
I know that I can't be the only one who wants to see freedom in these areas. So I created a resource guide of things that have been apart of my journey to seeing wholeness in every area of my life. If you are interested in some further freedom when it comes to your own soul, take a look:
  1. Head to Heart Podcast // Fair warning, this is a heavy podcast. Only listen if you are ready to tackle some heavy heart matters.
  2. Release Endorphins // Endorphins trigger feel good emotions that help relieve stress and anxiety levels. So go for a run or a hike. Take up cycling. Find a way to help out your body work for you!
  3. Abi Stumvoll Message- How do We Manage Our Emotions? // Really anything that Abi preaches on I take a listen. Her messages have been helping me along my freedom journey for years.
    1. Surround Yourself with People // We can't do this life on our own and we aren't meant to. Find people and hold on to them tight.
    2. Find time to laugh // Sometimes it just feels so good to laugh.
    3. Meditate on Scripture // The Bible has transformation power, but if we don't know what it says then it will be hard to renew our mind. I know that I can always hear His voice through His word and it is still relevant for today.
    4. Replace Lies with Truth // Truth is powerful. I'm learning to identify the lies that I believe and replace them with truth. It's life changing and empowering. The Backlund's wrote Just Laugh at That  and have a Podcast that I am currently working my way through.

About two times a week I make this recipe. It's easy, fast, and delicious. Plus it has avocado in it, and you all know how I feel about those. I think what makes it so easy, is that I always just seem to have these items on hand. I can make lunch real quick and still manage to get ready or clean the house or play with RK. anyway, I make this so much that it ends up on my instagram stories and I figured it was about time that I shared this recipe!

    Ingredients:
    • 1 Avocado Sliced
    • 1-2 Eggs
    • 1 Cup of Rice
    • 1 -2 Tsp Red Wine Vinegar
    • 1 Green Onion, thinly sliced
    • Salt and Pepper to taste
    • Siracha (optional)
    • Soy Sauce (optional)
    • Lime (optional)
    Instructions:
    1. Start cooking rice. I have a rice cooker and if I make for one it only requires a 2 to 1 ratio one serving.
    2. Fry your eggs, and season with salt and pepper.
    3. When the rice is almost done, slice green onion and avocado.
    4. When the rice is done, add green onion and red wine vinegar. Mix well.
    5. Place rice in bowl, then avocado, then fried egg. Put siracha, lime, or soy sauce as desired. Enjoy!

Back in December, I did a photoshoot my sister in law and I am finally starting to release them. They came out so great. Here are a few from that day. I will release more, but as to not overwhelm you, I am posting them within the different looks of that day. The location is a random dive bar in Dallas, where the owners were so awesome to let us in before they opened for the night. Hope you enjoy these!
